If you’re looking for an extra sparkly experience this year, then how about swapping out the eggnog for a Christmas cannabis space cake?! Getting this special cake cooking in the oven is sure to smooth over the usual stress and sense of cabin fever which can often accompany the festive period.

Cannabis Space Cake THC content

Long before cannabis edibles became an industry all of their own, the space cake THC experience was the most common way to ingest. So the amount of THC content in space cake obviously depends on the quantity of the weed on the ingredients list and the percentage of THC of the particular strain. In theory, a cake batch made from buds which derive from high THC cannabis seeds plants – such as Chocolate Wafflez, Tangerine Sorbet or Sunset Paradise – should bring a higher space cake THC content.

Alternatively, a space cake prepared with buds produced from CBD cannabis seeds will ensure deep relaxation only – which could be just the ticket if your holiday family gatherings tend to be tense occasions! With minimal levels of THC and high percentages of CBD (15 – 20%), cannabis seeds such as CBDrelax®, CBDivine® and CBDelight® grow high CBD plants which provide the perfect base ingredients.

Cannabis Space Cake Effect

As old as the weed space cake itself is the phenomenon of the high THC content space cake casualty whose famous last words were “I don’t feel anything, I’m having another piece…” Although most people will start to feel something within 30 – 60 minutes, always allow up to two hours to feel the effects.

The reason the effect can differ so much from person to person can be influenced by factors such as tolerance levels and metabolism so it’s very important to listen to your own body. So with this in mind, the best advice for space cake consumption is to keep it low (one piece at a time), slow and be patient. Obviously, this is not a cause for concern if you’re cooking a Space Cake from plants grown from CBD cannabis seeds.

How Do You Make Cannabis Space Cake?

The basic ingredients for any weed space cake is buds and a fatty substance such as coconut oil or butter. To turn your THC cannabis seed grown buds or CBD buds into Space Cake material requires a process known as decarboxylation to activate cannabis compounds (such as THC and CBD) so the body will be able absorb them in the edible format. There are many recipes for making cannabis coconut oil which is an essential ingredient in our alternative Christmas cake!

Wickedly Spaced Carrot Cake 

The following recipe was kindly donated by Moses, from Crickets & Cannabis (who featured in our November blog). A deluxe version of this recipe – with cannabis infused frosting! – can be found in his new organic cannabis cookbook which is released in early 2022.

First, assemble your ingredients and working tools, and preheat your oven to 350F/175C. Grease and flour a 9×13 inch cake pan, and set aside.

For your cake batter you will need:

  • 4 eggs (egg substitutions work here if you need)
  • 1.25 cups oil total, in any combination of infused coconut oil and vegetable oil you want. For example, if you want a more mellow high, 1 cup of vegetable oil and .25 cups infused coconut oil. If you want to be launched into space, 1.25 cups infused oil should get you there. Warm so the oil is liquid when adding to the recipe. 
  • 1.5 cups white sugar
  • 5 cups brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • .5 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon freshly ground nutmeg
  • 3 cups grated carrots
  • 1 cup chopped pecans/raisins/dried cranberries/other fruit and/or nuts (optional).

In a large bowl, beat the eggs, and add the oils, sugars, and vanilla. Mix well. To this, add your dry ingredients. First the salt, baking powder, and baking soda. Mix well. Now add the flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg, and mix again. You’ll have quite a wet batter. Dump in your carrots (and nuts or any other additions you want) and fold until fully combined.

Do the toothpick test at about 35 minutes. As SOON as it passes the toothpick test, remove from the oven and let it cool completely. The cake, once cooled, can be sliced into whatever sized pieces you desire. Leftovers can be individually wrapped tightly in plastic wrap, or reusable beeswax wrap, and refrigerated for about a week, or frozen for up to a year.

To consume later, allow to come to room temperature slowly. Do not microwave. This will be a moist, delicious treat, which goes remarkably well with a nice light to medium roast coffee, or a strong herbal tea. Medicate responsibly.
