autowappa flowering Paradise breeder Luc's recent release of new strains, amongst others, included Auto Acid, Auto Whiteberry, Auto Jack and Auto Wappa - Auto versions of some of his best indoor strains, in accordance with the current seed market trend. But to what degree has Luc managed to bring about auto strain version qualities as close as possible to those of the originals? This question was on German grower Growolff's mind when he curiously put Auto Wappa to the test. Back in 2009, he had read an enthusiastic strain report about Wappa in a magazine and wondered whether Auto Wappa would live up to Wappa's characteristics praised there, e.g. a sweet and fruity aroma, big yields and plenty of resin plus a great deal of potency. In fact, Luc does promise that Auto Wappa possesses the properties of her predecessor, resembling the original Wappa very much: He describes Auto Wappa as an easy to grow variety with impressively shaped compact flowers forming resinous and sweet fruity buds with a high calyx-to-leaf ratio and a "surprisingly strong" effect. Auto Wappa's pedigree basically consists of 50% indica and 50% sativa, but of course also carries some autoflowering ruderalis genes that make her an autoflowering variety after all. Indoors, she has a lifecycle span of 60-65 days from germinated seeds to maturity, outdoors (where she can grow to a height of about one metre) it lasts a bit longer, about 70 days. Yields of up to 400g/m2 under lights and 75 gram per outdoor plant shall be possible.

autowappa flowering Growolff sowed three feminised Auto Wappa seeds into Jiffy pots and they quickly sprouted, enjoying a good start placed in a Secret Jardin 1 m2 grow box under two 75 Watts high-efficiency CFL lamps at 18 hours of light per day. He planted the young seedlings into 6.5 litre pots filled with Plagron Standard Mix soil and after two weeks moved them into his big grow room equipped with 6x 600 Watts lamps (3x HPS, 3x MH / 6x HPS in the flowering stage), where also a range of other, regular, strains was already growing, at a daily light cycle of 18 hours. At that point of time, the three plants were 15-18 cm tall and growing fairly compact, having produced 4-5 internodes and side branch formations as well as quite narrow shade leaves that reminded more of sativa than of indica. A few days later, the first female preflowers became visible, so the autoflowering effect was setting in according to plan, and Growolff was also very satisfied with the remarkably homogeneous growth performance of the plants. In the course of flowering, they exhibited a strong stretching effect, increasing in height by about 10-12 cm every week. autowappa floweringAt the same time, they were branching out vividly, adopting a diamond-shaped growth pattern. When they were 35 days old and about 2.5 weeks into flowering, Growolff noted that resin production was going on dynamically, lots of crystals started to emerge on the young calyxes and flower leaves. Bud formation was proceeding extremely well in the following weeks of flowering, with the plants developing dense indica-style flower clusters with quite a high calyx-to-leaf ratio, shaping lots of fat tops allover the plants. And the three Auto Wappa plants were pumping out surprisingly rich amounts of resin giving them a silvery white appearance, in fact, they turned out to become the most resinous auto variety ever encountered by Growolff, pretty damn sticky! No wonder that their odour was accordingly strong, being super sweet and fruity, indeed, with no traces of ruderalis at all, a sheer pleasure to sniff.

At the age of 61, 64 and 66 days, the three plants were fully ripe, within the life cycle span stated by Paradise Seeds. Final heights were 68, 71 and 78 cm. When the bud harvest had been dried carefully, Growolff read a total yield of 127 grams from the scales, i.e. an average yield of more than 40 grams of super resinous buds per plant - undoubtfully and excellent achievement for an autoflowering strain. The more so, as they had only received 12 hours of light per day from flowering week three, due to the presence of regular strains in that grow room, and their yield would certainly have further benefited from longer light cycles ideal for autoflowering strains, e.g. 20 hours. He loved the most intense sweet and fruity smell of his dried Auto Wappa buds and naturally was full of expectations when he smoked the first fattie. Already a few tokes - deliciously sweet and mild, totally free of any ruderalis aspects - made him realise the quality of this strain would even go beyond his expectations: A mighty indica hammer quickly slapped his head, sending him on a relaxant journey into the valley of deep, but also cheerful stonedness where he happily spent almost two hours. "Simply amazing, these Auto Wappa apples really do fall extremely close to the Wappa mother tree!", Growolff praised, "this is autoflowering potency pushed to another level, absolutely outstanding and certainly the best experienced so far in the field of auto strains." Three feminised Auto Wappa seeds are available for 23€, five for 35€ and ten for 65€.
