Grow Report: Atomical Haze

Electrifying Haze Bomb

As legend goes, Atomical Haze got its name from the breeder, Luc Paradise, who was looking to create a real ‘Haze bomb’. The result is an exotic sativa (80%) whose components consist of Original Haze, Indian sativa and Afghani indica.

Still counted as one of his favourite strains and an enduringly popular customer choice in the Paradise collection, this plant is full of sweet and sour flavor with an electric soaring effect that channels uplifting energy. Flowering time is 63 – 70 days indoors and the end of October outdoors with estimated yields of 450g per m² indoors / 800g per plant outdoors. So how do they work in the grow room? Expert grower, The Doc, was keen to find out.

Germination and Vegetative Stage

The Doc sowed a package of five feminized Atomical Haze seeds. In less than three days, the sprouted seeds had reached the jiffy pots’ surface, something incredibly fast The Doc had rarely ever experienced before. He followed the Paradise Seeds recommendation to induce flowering extremely early, doing so by reducing the daily light period from 18 to 12 hours already one week after the young seedlings had appeared above the surface.

In that one week of early vegetative growth, the seedlings had been illuminated with two TLC 150 lights. With the beginning of the flowering period, they were transplanted to 11 litre pots and moved into the flowering room that was equipped with two 600 W HPS and one 400 W Osram Son-T plus lamp.

Flowering stage

After one week into flowering, the five Atomical Haze plants showed a uniform compact growth behaviour, having arrived at three internodes. One week later, they were about 10 cm tall, with 5-6 internodes. After three weeks in the flowering stage, the first female white hairs had become visible and the plants of course kept on stretching, at the same time expediting their side branch growth. At that point of time, they measured 15-20 cm, still growing homogeneously.

After four weeks of flowering, the Doc reported: “Wow, the plants have more than doubled their height within one week, measuring 35-50 cm now! Meanwhile it has turned out there are obviously two slightly different phenotypes, three of the plants are very much on the sativa side, while the other two are also revealing certain signs of indica traits, being lower and more compact than the sativa dominant phenotype, also having wider leaves.”

When five weeks of flowering had passed, the five Atomical Haze plants were exhibiting those first small “rose” flower clusters along the branches. After seven weeks into flowering, the five plants had already formed a lot of compact buds including great top colas the size of which was obviously going to become pretty impressive in the end. And also resin production had meanwhile considerably increased, with lots of sparkling trichomes on the calyxes and flower leaves which did effect a strong sweet and fruity scent with some traces of Haze.

The stretching had totally come to an end now, with the plants measuring between 80-125 cm. The two plants of the phenotype that did exhibit somewhat more indica traits – being shorter and having a little lower calyx-to-leaf ratio than the sativa phenotype – were ripe after ten weeks of flowering.

The other three followed five days later, after 75 days of flowering. All of the five plants had become highly resinous (“like all that Paradise Seeds Wicked high stuff I have grown over the past ten years”, The Doc noted) and were giving off a very intense, extremely sweet and fruity odour with a slight trace of Haze.

Harvest Yield

When he had harvested and over three weeks carefully dried (including a slight fermentation) all those lovely big chunky resinous Atomical Haze buds, it turned out they weighed 358 grams altogether, i.e. an average of 71.6 grams per plant.

Smell and Smoke Report

And the Atomical Haze high did take The Doc by storm, proving to be another fantastic experience for him in terms of mighty sativa power and delicious smoke aroma. “It came over me with an express train’s speed, exciting super tingly strong vibrations in both my head and body, a crystally clear stimulative sativa up-high that lasted for hours.

The taste was the same, super sweet and a bit fruity sour, just as described by Paradise Seeds, and it did also include that fine hazey aftertaste on the exhale.

Verdict

The Doc was totally taken with his “radioactive” Atomical Haze, “for sure another terrific haze strain with superb characteristics from Paradise Seeds”, he said.
